The Story
When the biggest highlight in your life for the past 30 years has been your weekly bridge night out with the “girls,” what do you do when one of your foursome inconveniently dies? If you’re Connie, Leona and Millie, three southern ladies from Birmingham, you do the most daring thing you’ve ever done. You “borrow” the ashes from the funeral home for one last card game, and the wildest, most exciting night of their lives begins with a police raid, a stripper, laughs, and a whole new way of looking at all the fun you can have when you’re truly living.
The Characters
4w, 1m
Southern accent is required
The three older characters have been friends for over 30 years, I’m looking
for a strong chemistry between the actors. The three older women are on
stage throughout.
RACHEL ANN: 21, a young woman who seems to have issues with life
and men until bridge night opens her eyes. She’s a theatre major thus, very
dramatic, she’s been stood up and feels it was her last chance of finding
love.
CONNIE HARLAND: 50s, mother of Rachel, who finds on this fateful
bridge night that life doesn’t end at 55. Sensible one in the group, stuck in
her daily routine, life is centered around her daughter.
LEONA: 50s, close friend of Connie and Millie, who’ve been playing bridge
together for 30 years. She’s a hairdresser who finds any excuse to drink
and worries about
MILLIE: 50s, If you have ever watched Golden Girls, you’d think she and
Rose Nylund are sisters. She’s out there…. Will require someone to be
able to truly believe the lines she has to deliver!
BOBBY (POLICEMAN): 23, A psych major who is working his way through
college by stripping (gets down to his briefs) and Mary, deceased
member of the bridge club, hired him to wake up her three friends - life’s
too short and you got to exit laughing!
BUTTER-BUTT: Mary’s cat
