Eclipse Theatre will hold auditions for Trish Vradenburg’s Surviving Grace, inspired by the author’s mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s.
Date: Saturday, August 13, 2022 - 10:00 AM
Callbacks: Date/Time TBD
Location: Eclipse Theatre, 915 Schrock Rd., Columbus, 43229

All roles are non-paid and non-union.

Those auditioning should prepare a story to relate how Alzheimer’s has touched their life. This could be a personal anecdote, an impression resulting from viewing someone else’s experience, or even information gleaned from personal research on Alzheimer’s. Maybe it’s just how you think you would react if one of your loved ones was diagnosed. This play deals with a subject that will no doubt be very personal to some, but the hope is that it leaves an impression on everyone no matter their perceived involvement with the disease. There will be cold reads from the script, but those sides will not be made available until the audition. The script is available through Amazon as well as Broadway Play Publishing Inc.

A rehearsal schedule will be devised after the show is cast, so it is imperative that everyone brings a list of conflicts for ALL DATES from August 12 through November 6, 2022.

Contact the director, Kathy Sturm (kathy.sturm@eclipsecolumbus.com) with any questions.

Production crew positions are also available (stage manager, board operator, running crew).

The Story

Surviving Grace is a brutally honest, irreverent and moving story – laced with humor – that sheds light on the emotional ups and downs that 15.4 million Alzheimer’s caregivers in the United States go through each day. The play is based on Trish Vradenburg’s experience as a caregiver to her mother who died of Alzheimer's in 1992, “I thought my mom was invincible, but she was no match for Alzheimer’s. I watched helplessly as her mind, her dignity, and finally her body vanished into the unforgiving chasm of Alzheimer's. So why a serious play with a large dose of humor? Because that's how I survive life – if you don't laugh, you'll cry. We have to bring this disease out of the shadows and into the spotlight.”
